Kristina Lončarić, Croatia, Observership Report Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK

I am deeply grateful to SOE for the extraordinary observership opportunity at Moorfields Eye Hospital (MEH) NHS Foundation Trust in London, UK, from 21st January to 1st February 2019 in Strabismus & Pediatrics, and from 4th February to 15th February 2019 in Neuro-ophthalmology service.

The schedule was well organized, and all staff members were very approachable, kind and expert.

It was a great opportunity to observe the organization of the hospital, learn from worldclass experts dealing with challenging cases, and to make professional contacts.

I enjoyed observing a great number of different strabismus operations in such a short time and got many useful practical hints, especially regarding adjustable strabismus procedures. I also learned a lot in the Toxin clinic where I could observe a large number of different strabismus patients managed with botulinum toxin, which is not as routinely practiced in my country. I also found MDT radiology and neuro-ophthalmology meetings very interesting, useful and educational.

In addition to learning through observing clinic and theatre work, I also benefited from educational opportunities in terms of included access to teaching sessions, lectures, multidisciplinary meetings and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology library.

I would like to thank everyone from SOE and MEH who made this valuable experience possible. Your support has advanced my professional career and the level of expertise in managing my patients.

I would highly recommend this worldclass centre of excellence for ophthalmic care and education to all my European colleagues!
