Observership Report from Lydia Hankovska, Slovakia at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London

My name is Lydia Hankovska. I am the 4th year resident of the ophthalmology at Slovak Medical University in Bratislava, Slovakia. First of all, I would like to express my immense appreciation to the European Society of Ophthalmology. The Educational Grant for Ophthalmologists-in-training gave me a chance to broaden my knowledge in the area of ophthalmology and improve my skills at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. I had the opportunity to spend 2 weeks at Neuroophthalmology and 2 weeks at Cataract service this September. My observership program included clinical work, participation at operating theatres, variety of seminars with consultant-led teams and regular teaching sessions. I visited the outstanding ophthalmology library which is the most impressive I have ever seen.

I would like to address my special thanks to Professor Gartry, Mr Saha, Mr Petzold, Mr Acheson, Mrs Burke who shared their knowledge with great enthusiasm. Their work was greatly inspiring for me as a future specialist.

Based on my brilliant experience from the MEH, I encourage all my colleagues to apply for the SOE Educational Grants as these experiences will be cherished and highly valued by everyone
