‘We’ve taken a momentous first step toward regenerative medicine using iPS cells’ – Masayo Takahashi

A Japanese woman has become the first recipient of next-generation stem cells. Surgeons implanted retinal tissue created after reverting the patient’s own cells to ‘pluripotent’ state. Ophthalmologist Masayo Takahashi, had developed and tested the epithelium sheets which She derived  from the patient’s skin cells, after producing induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells and then getting them to differentiate into retinal cells.

SOE are delighted that Masayo Takahashi, confirmed as a Keynote speaker at SOE2015, will be discussing ‘Transplantation of retinal pigment epithelial cells derived from iPS Cells’, on Monday, 8 June at SOE2015. Click here for further details on all SOE2015 Keynote speakers.
