Dmytro Martynov, Ukraine, Observership Report from Università degli Studi di Genova, Clinica Oculistica (Genova, Italy)

I express my gratitude to Professor Marko Hawlina and European Society of Ophthalmology for awarding me the Educational Grant for Ophthalmologists-in-training and the opportunity to do an observership in a marvelous  Clinica Oculistica of Genova!

My professional interest is glaucoma and retina.

During my observership I examined patients with glaucoma, vitreoretinal, corneal diseases and others.

I also attended the operating room with Professor Traverso. These were phacoemulsifications of cataract, trabeculectomies with mitomycin C, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, such as implantation of InnFocus Microshunt, Xen Gel Stent.   I observed various vitreoretinal surgeries (closed posterior vitrectomies for rhegmatogenous, tractional retinal detachments, epiretinal fibrosis, macular holes, etc.), also with 3D-visualization system.

At the Medical Retina department, I honed my skills of fluorescein, indocyanin-green angiography, OCT and photodynamic therapy. I also was present at penetrating keratoplasty, DSAEK and oculoplastic operations.

Genoa – a magnificent colorful city, impressed me with its landscapes and colors!

I am very grateful to wonderful Professor Carlo Traverso, excellent doctors Carlo Alberto Cutolo, Matteo Badino, Professor Tommaso Rossi, Professor Massimo Nicolo for useful, comprehensive experience, excellent attitude and hospitality, new knowledge and inspiration for new achieves!
