Cristina Scerbatiuc, Republic of Moldova observership report from Eye Hospital, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia

I would like to thank SOE Educational Grant for giving me the chance to spend two weeks as a fellow at the Department of ophthalmology at the University Medical Center Ljubljana, Slovenia, in September 2023. I would like to express my gratitude to the entire staff at the University Eye Hospital of Ljubljana as well as the SOE Educational Committee for choosing me for the program.

I’d like to express my gratitude to Prof. Dr. Marko Hawlina, the SOE Education Committee’s Chairman, for his assistance and for giving me the chance to finish my observation term at this exceptional facility. I want to personally thank my mentor, Dr. Martina Jarc-Vidmar, for taking the time to explain and talk about situations while being busy with her everyday responsibilities.

On Monday, which was neuro-ophthalmology day, Dr. M. Jarc-Vidmar and Prof. M. Hawlina show me how to handle patients with anisocoria, altered vision fields, neuropathies, and optic nerve neuritis.

I spent a few days in medical retina department, where I learned a lot about retinal disorders, the retinal image produced by the FFA, ICG, and OCT methods, and the indications for anti-VEGF therapy in AMD, CRVO, diabetic maculopathy, and refractory choroidal neovascularization.

I highly recommend the University Eye Hospital of Ljubljana as a location where people can not only gain important information but also get to know a lot of wonderful people who are passionate about ophthalmology.

In spite of a large number of patients all of them explained in detail every examination and indication for treatment they made.
