SOE Resident Educational Grant
The Board of SOE offers a limited number of scholarships for ophthalmologists-in-training from East European countries to visit Ophthalmic Centres in Europe.
At present it is envisaged that the successful applicants will spend a minimum of 2 – 4 weeks observing clinical work in a European Centre. SOE has compiled a list of Centres which accept observers and of the sub-specialities they offer.
The number of Educational Grants is limited to 2 or 3 applicants from each East European country (Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine).
SOE will support the successful candidates with an educational grant of 500 EUR.
Please note that you should not contact the clinic or hospital you would like to visit while applying for the grant. We will only ask you to contact the clinics or hospital if you have been selected for the SOE Educational Grant, in which case we will give you further information.
To apply for an Educational Grant
SOE wishes to strengthen links among teachers across Europe and their teaching institutions. To stimulate these links, SOE is pleased to offer a programme of grants and welcomes teachers in active residency training roles in the institutions of Eastern Europe to apply for this programme.
The programme is intended either as 2 week or 4 week visits to one of the teaching centres on the SOE list.
SOE only supports educators that are actively involved with residency training either in University Hospitals, County teaching hospitals or in private settings with formal residency education programmes.
SOE will support the successful candidates with a stipend. It is up to the applicant to make up this choice based on their availability and agreements with the centre they wish to visit. A short report to the SOE will be required after their return.
