Marina Movsesian Grant Report, Mainz , Germany

I was fortunate to complete a four-week fellowship at the Department of Ophthalmology at Mainz University Hospital (Mainz University Augenklinik). These four weeks were not only an invaluable professional experience but also an inspiration for my continued work in the field of ophthalmology.
From the beginning, from the secretarial staff during the correspondence phase to the nurses and doctors everyone was incredibly kind, polite and ready to help with any questions.
The Mainz University Augenklinik has many different departments but my main focus was the cornea, keratoconus, refractive and cataract surgery departments.
During my fellowship, I had the chance to encounter many interesting and complex clinical cases. I was able to observe a variety of surgery. The schedule was based on my interests but I also had an opportunity to visit glaucoma, retina, oculoplastic and other departments.
I am truly grateful to all the doctors and staff at the clinic for their kindness, patience, and willingness to share their knowledge and experience. Every physician I had the privilege of working with was always ready to answer my questions, explain the nuances of various clinical cases in detail, and treat my interests with respect. I would like to express special thanks to Dr. Wasielica-Poslednik, Dr. Marx-Groß, Dr. Wagner, Dr. Al Hariri and Dr. Kiel for their attentiveness and comprehensive explanations.
My fellowship in Mainz not only provided me with new knowledge and practical skills but also introduced me to incredible people, and inspired me to continue working hard and striving for excellence in my career. I am confident that the experience I gained will significantly help me in my future work.
Additionally, I would like to mention that Mainz is an amazing city that makes working and living especially pleasant. The atmosphere, beauty, and coziness of the city made my time there incredibly comfortable and inspiring. I hope to have the opportunity to return to Mainz in the future to meet with colleagues and continue our collaboration.
Finally, I would like to extend my deep gratitude to the SOE for organizing this fellowship. It was an invaluable opportunity for both professional and personal growth. I am certain that the knowledge and skills I gained during these four weeks will have a lasting impact on my career.
I wish good luck to the future applicants and hope that this program brings them as many positive emotions and valuable experiences as it did for me. Believe in yourself, aim for the best, and success will surely follow!
