Mirian Makrakhidze, Georgia Educational Grant Report from Eye Clinic, Rigshospitalet in Glostrup, Denmark

I have spent four incredible weeks as an observer in the Rigshospitalet in Glostrup, Denmark.

The  clinic has the biggest Ophthalmology department in the country. The Ophthalmology Department is composed with  all the units.

Most interested direction was Surgical retinal  team and Medical team what for , I followed in the frame of my observership.

Organizational and  technical/administrational part of my internship was planned at a very high level. The schedule was made in a way that every day I could observe different types of patients.  I attended the operation room every single day where I could see many interesting and unique Vitreo-retinal surgeries.

After the operations I had the opportunity to be in the consulting room, I could examine the patients and discuss their cases with the doctors.

Because Rigshospitalet- Glostrup is the biggest not only in Denmark, but also  in the Northern Europe , the most difficult and rare cases came in there. The Doctors are highly professional, they have unspeakable surgical skills. They are also very friendly and attentive.

I had a huge chance to improve my knowledge especially in medical retina, that I will use and develop in my future career by all means.

I would like to address my special thanks and gratitude to the Medical retina team: Dr Oliver Niels Klefter, Dr. Tomas Ilginis, Dr. Farah Arif, staff nurse Marianne Valerius, for the incredible work they have done for me. All the doctors were trying to share their knowledge with great enthusiasm. I would like to thank the European Society of Ophthalmology for awarding me the educational grant for Ophthalmologists-in-training.
