Teacher Observership Grant recipient Egle Drukteiniene, Lithuania at the University Eye Hospital in Ljubljana, Slovenia

First of all, I am very thankful to the European Society of Ophthalmology for giving me such a great opportunity.

In May, I spent 2 weeks as a clinical observer in the University Eye Hospital in Ljubljana, Slovenia, under the supervision of Prof. Manca Tekavčič Pompe. During my visit, I had a chance to be an observer in the paediatric ophthalmology department. As an observer, I was able to see the management of various paediatric eye diseases such as congenital cataract, paediatric glaucoma, uveitis, retinal diseases, and rare genetic disorders. I was able to discuss these diseases and their treatment opportunities in Slovenia with doctors and residents. During my visit, I also observed residents work and discussed their teaching methods. Visiting University Eye Hospital Ljubljana, I was able to widen my knowledge in paediatric ophthalmology and see treatment opportunities for paediatric eye diseases. Moreover, I met wonderful doctors and residents, whom I hope to see in the near future.

I am very grateful for all the doctors, especially for Prof. Manca Tekavčič Pompe, and to all the residents and staff for the very pleasant working atmosphere. I felt very welcomed.

I definitely recommend UMC Ljubljana for ophthalmologists and teachers to visit.
