GEORGIAN OPHTHALMOLOGICAL SOCIETY (GOS), & SOE 3rd JOINT MEETING

Misha Omiadze, MD.PhD – Chief Of Organization Committee, Cataract & Refractive Service, Regional Hospital – Tbilisi, Georgia: July 2018

“My expectations and hopes for this meeting were to establish stronger bonds between European and Georgian ophthalmologists to create an atmosphere where both parties could interact, exchange knowledge and practical experience, keep up with important findings, develop new skills and techniques.

My expectations were met, because of the s cale and quality of the conference. We had a number of incredibly interesting presentations and case discussions, hosted about a hundred foreign ophthalmologists, with leading international professionals including the future president of European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE) – Wagih Aclimandos. Overall 500 participants in total, where around 100 participants were from European nations. We had a live feed transmission of surgical demonstration from three different local hospitals of complicated cataract surgery cases.

Hosting this event in Georgia, we are able to share this influx of knowledge and information with broader ophthalmological audiences within our country.  It is a great opportunity for career-building and networking, for professional development of our ophthalmologists, thus leading to improvement in Georgian ophthalmology standards overall.”
