SOE Educational Grant Placement report from Zura Glonti, Georgia at Yeditepe University Hospitals in Istanbul, Turkey

First of all would like to thank the SOE Educational Committee and Prof. Marko Hawlina for this great opportunity to be selected for the SOE Grant programme. 

I had opportunity to visit Yeditepe Univeristy Hospitals in Istanbul, Turkey. So I want to thank Prof. Sinan Tatlipinar and Dean of the Yediteoe University Hospital – Prof. Dr. Sina Ercan for giving me this opportunity. 

I observed and examined patients in outpatient clinic and observed a wide range of ophthalmic surgeries. I had special interest in Pediatric Ophthalmolgy and had the chance to observe Strabismus surgery and examination and diagnostic methods in pediatric ophthalmology with Mrs. Ilke Bahceci Simsec. Furthermore – I observed Cataract and Vitreoretinal surgeries by Prof. Sinan Tatlipinar. Furthermore – there was many different devices like Oculus Pentacam, Nidek Topcon OCT, Heidelberg FFA, ICGA and etc. So I got some experience with working this devices. 

Especially I want to thank Dr. Ilke Bahceci Simsec who shared her knowledge with great enthusiasm. I am very grateful for her and all the nurses and staff for very pleasant working atmosphere.

I am very happy to go to Istanbul – very nice city which blends tradition and modernity and place!
