SOE Observership Report – Zorana Pavlovic

First of all, I would like to express my appreciation to the European Society of Ophthalmology and Professor Marko Hawlina, for awarding me the Educational Grant for Ophthalmologists-in-training, which gave me a great chance to improve my knowledge and ophthalmology skills.

As my main fields of interest are pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery, I have choosen “Policlinico S. Orsola- Malpighi, Clinica oculistica- Universita’ degli studi” in Bologna.

The staff at the clinic was friendly and made my observership very pleasant.

I was given a chance to see how all the departments work and observe everything that was interesting to me.

Mondays and Wednesdays I spent at the department for pediatric ophthalmology and ocular surface. Tuesdays and Thursdays I spent  in the operating theatre, where I was able to observe a strabismus surgery, as well as a cataract surgery. Friday was the neuro-ophthalmology day, during which I had  the opportunity to see  many interesting cases. Throughout my observership I also attended scientific meetings organized once a week.

I’m sure that the knowledge I acquired will be beneficial for my future work.

I would recommend this centre to the future SOE Grant winners, especially for all who are interested in strabismus surgery.
