Malina Markova, Bulgaria SOE Grant report from Universitätsklinikum Marburg, Germany

I express my deepest gratitude to the SOE Educational Committee and Univ-Prof. Dr. med. Walter Sekundo for the SOE Resident Educational Grant and the opportunity of observership at one of the best University Hospitals in Germany.

The ophthalmic department provide the highest quality of ophthalmic care. During my training, I had the opportunity to take part in the examinations of patients in the ophthalmology clinic, to observe rare and complex cases. I attended many surgeries.

I observed surgical procedures such as pars plana vitrectomy, glaucoma surgery- Ahmed tube, cataract surgery, lamellar keratoplasty-DMEK, refractive surgery, crosslinking, strabismus surgery, eyelid tumor excisions, ectropion and entropion surgeries, ptosis reconstruction, etc.

The purpose of this standardized way of teamwork is defining of responsibilities and approaches to diagnostic and treatment measures of ocular tumors for optimizing integration and coordination between different professional figures.

I would like to address my thanks to the Head of Clinic Univ-Prof. Dr. med. Walter Sekundo, Prof. Dr. med. Stephan Schulze, Dr. med. univ. Nadja Viktoria Weber, Dr. Naqibullah Habibi, Dr. Elena Ziegler, Dr. Anouar Meziane-Elotmani who shared their knowledge with great enthusiasm. I’m very grateful for all fellows, nurses and staff for very pleasant working atmosphere.

This observership has widened my knowledge, improved my professional skills and given me new professional contacts. I would recommend the University Hospital in Marburg, Germany to all future SOE Resident Educational Grant applicants.

I would like to thank European Society of Ophthalmology for the opportunity I have received.
